All practical events (other than training weekends - see under Training courses on the left) are free of charge to all members of the Dry Stone Walling Association, with non-members very welcome to come along to watch. All projects are open to novice, amateur and professional wallers - the emphasis is on fun whilst learning or practising dyking skills. Events usually kick off about 10:00 and finish at 16:00. At most venues facilities are limited so a packed lunch is a good idea, plus water (if it's a warm day) and/or warm clothing (if it isn't). Safety wear is also advised (tough gardening/working gloves and steel toe-capped boots, or at least stout walking/working boots, plus safety glasses if/when using hammers).
